Whoa, that looks like a lot when you stack them all up like that. Fifty closures, almost one per week. Thanks for sharing it, Silvio.

Certainly a long list of closures but according to this article from business 1st: https://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/ ... n-the.html the number of new restaurant openings still outpaced a number of closings last year.

Yeah, Louisville Food and Dining counted 130 reported openngs vs 77 closings. They also write that 2019 was the 16th consecutive year that openings outpaced closures "and by a significant margin."

Psyched to see El Mundo moving into the old Flavour spot. I've been wishing for a Mexican spot in that corridor and El Mundo is a great one. Summer Margarita's on that patio should be a winner. Also looking forward to Dragon King's Daughter in the old Cafe Mimosa location. We walked by both spots this morning, though, and neither looks very far along in the renovations so it could be a while before either opens.

A few more that the C-J didn’t list:

Louisville Cafe India, 12412 Shelbyville Road in Middletown. Closed sometime during the fall. It was replaced by a different Indian restaurant, Vindhu Bhojanam.

Himalayan Restaurant, 1578 Bardstown Road. Closed during the fall.

Crystal’s Southern Food & Spirits, 9909 Taylorsville Road, Jeffersontown. Replaced Floridita’s in late March but lasted only a few months.

I agree -- I've not seen any work done on the new El Mundo. On NYE afternoon, I noticed the rear lights were on at the new DKD, I took a peak and they were still tearing out the walls in the kitchen (I didn't look too closely as, based on things that I've heard, I didn't want to see what was behind those walls. Don't want such an image in my head when I eat there!). Both look to be Spring openings.

No worries, there is plenty going on revamping the new El Mundo space. Lots of internal gremlins to flush out and repair. Look for us February/March.
