Feast of Seven Fishes

by Tony G » Sat Dec 14, 2019 11:44 am

First BIG thanks to Robin for helping me with my log on issues. Second years ago I posted here asking if any place did a Feast of Seven Fishes. When it appeared no place did Majids stepped up and did a one off for some of us here that was amazing! I’m not asking for another place to do one. Just a comment that if a place did it, even for one night, it would sell out. I wish I could crash a families FOSF dinner. Happy Holidays to all of you. TG

Tony, that would be great all right! It probably wouldn't be a big attraction to people who aren't familiar with la Festa dei sette pesci, but a lot would depend on marketing. All the best of the holidays to you, too.

I got out of a sick bed to enjoy that wonderful meal at Majid's. I too wish someone would take it up.
Thanks for the memory.

Looks like Pizza Lupo is doing a Feast of Seven Fishes, although it's on New Year's Eve:

That's great, Rich! I was just thinking that Lupo, Ciao, and Sarino might be places to call about it.

We do a Feast of the Seven Fishes every year. I grew up in a predominantly Italian neighborhood in Queens and I thought everyone did that on Christmas Eve. When we moved here, I was totally surprised when a) no one had a clue what I was talking about and b) it was nearly impossible to find scungulli and baccala locally. :o

It was just a guess. We lived in Astoria in the early '90s and loved it. It was heavily Greek by then, so much so that the ATMs offered English only as the alternate choice. But the Italian roots were still there, and we took full advantage.

At the Italian Table on Frankfort reports two spots opened for tonight. I would bet there’s no other place in town that would do a more authentic FoSF. They are on Open Table.

Thanks Tony, for the kind words.

I was the manager at Majid's that planned and executed that dinner.

We had so much fun doing underground dinners and such in those days. They were a lot of work but dang they were special.

It brings a smile to my face knowing you remember that experience.
