Bistro 301

by Ed Vermillion » Fri Apr 19, 2019 8:51 pm

The space has been dark for the last four days. The telephone call ends in a message that the voice mail is full. As Deke's Marketplace Grill and then Bistro 301, both have been a staple of that corner (3 and Market) for quite some time. Any news?

I saw a sign there yesterday evening: Mex-a-Taco.

Yet another taco joint ......

Not just any taco joint, though. That's the downtown shop of MexA Taco on Lexington in St. Matthews, just west of Lotsa Pasta, and it's good, very good. Since I never really warmed up to Bistro 301, sorry, I'm not going to complain about this.

I'm sorry for this. We used to go several times/year, mainly before a show at Actor's, KY Center, or Yum. Food was reliable, and going with a group you could get good (and reasonable) salads, sandwiches, mains, et al. (whatever anyone in a varied group might want). Drinks were great. This one we will miss.

The MexA sign is actually on the one-story building at 305 W. Market, next door to Bistro 301. I'm not sure there's any connection between MexA and whatever happened to Bistro 301.

The reviews on Open Table seem to tell a tale. Especially around the last week of March/first week of April.

There is no connection between MexA and Bistro 301. Different properties. Also, as Robin implied, they are not just another taco joint.

"... the metro area quietly, without any publicity, achieved full taco."

I agree with this earlier assessment found on another thread. .. I don't doubt that they are good. But sorry, I just can't get excited.
