Death of someone in the industry

by Carla G » Mon Feb 04, 2019 4:50 pm

Last week my ex-husband, Joe Griffin, passed away. There may be some on these boards that knew Joe. Joe had worked for years for Victoria Station and even longer with Tumbleweed restaurants. He also worked for a shorter stint with Hooters. Joe died of natural causes. An obituary will be running in the CJ later this week. Final services are private for family members only. Rather than flowers the family asks that any acknowledgments take the form of donations to APRON Inc. ( http://www.aproninc.org/donate/ )
Many thanks to all of you that remained friends with Joe in his later years.

Carla, would you mind posting a link here? I think he was in corporate at Tumbleweed when I worked there in the early 90's (before they expanded/franchised), but I'm not sure. I've been trying to find his obit since I first saw this post. Also, I am sorry for your loss.

It was supposed to run in Lexington Herald as well but I can’t find it.
Kim if you were with Tumbleweed in the early 90s he might have been there. He was at Executive Inn in 1985 for a while. He was with TW for many years.
Thank you for your thoughts and kindness.

Thanks for posting, Carla. Gosh, he was young. Was he maybe in HR for TW?

Started out in management then went into franchises/ training.
You might have known his second wife as well, Lisa Hale. Super nice lady that I think was in HR but I’m not positive about that.

Carla - I just wanted to follow up. I am still friends or connected to several people who I worked with at TW, so I shared the news with them. First, he was who I was thinking of. I remember thinking he was a nice man, and it seemed like he had a good sense of humor, although I didn't know him very well. But I had other friends who knew him better (several who opened new stores with him as the trainer), and everyone had very nice things to say about him. All said he was a very nice man, and a few said he was the coolest of the corporate team (under the Kellers). Not sure if you were interested in this feedback/reflection from others, but thought I'd share.

Oh Kim , yes, your feedback is greatly appreciated. I’m pleased that many remember him fondly. He loved his work and, I think, he was very good at it. Joe did much for the industry that went unsung, like writing the carving manual for all of Vic Stations. He will be missed.
