Bistro 1860 - closing

by JustinHammond » Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:37 am

From Facebook.

Unfortunately due to irreconcilable differences with our landlord Bistro 1860 will be closing for business at the end of the day. Please come and celebrate our amazing staff and all of the hard work they have done over the last 6 years. Chef Michael Crouch and the GM Hannah Black have been amazing. Tonight is the night to come and appreciate them as well as the rest of the staff. This is the best team I have ever had and they deserve appreciation. Everything is great at 1860 because the people who work there make it great. I love them and will miss Bistro 1860.

I have it on good authority that bad things happen in the restaurant business but that, despite the post, we probably needn't blame the landlord. Fair enough. I won't name or shame them.

All so mysterious. Anyone care to elaborate?

In my case, just limited knowledge. The original announcement's reference to being unable to agree with the landlord sent me down one trail. Learning privately that this wasn't the issue and that the landlord isn't known for greed sent me another way. Let's just say that going out of business is sad and difficult, and the urge to look for outside blame is very human and understandable.

But I really don't have any inside details.

So the OP on facebook lied about this?

I guess too much pride to just tell the truth.

Sad...in every way.

A lot of speculation going on here. Does not seem fair to call the owner a liar unless you back it up.

Will, I'm trying to recall any restaurant closing, ever, where the owner actually came out and said, "this isn't working, sorry," rather than blaming some outside influence. Westport General Store may be the only one I can remember. ;)

Well, it was either the truth or a lie.

Our esteemed host said he learned that the landlord issue(s) was the not the case, therefore my comment about the landlord issues being a lie.

Since Robin does not have a "dog in the fight", I am going with his info.

To be fair, the irrevocable difference could have been they owed back lease on the building and they finally got evicted... but yes, shutting down in one day does not seem to be a lease dispute to me (though, I've never leased commercial property... I assume you don't lose a building in a day)

How is any of this any of our business?
My goodness, unless this effects the general population, no one is obligated to spread out their personal life for the public to judge.
