New Italian place replacing Cliftons

by Robin Garr » Wed Oct 24, 2018 12:35 pm

This is interesting ... posted by the owners of the now-closed Clifton's Pizza on Crescent Hill and Clifton NextDoor:

Mark Langley, owner of Cliftons Pizza wrote:We are excited to report that another restaurant has signed paperwork to move into the space soon! They are an established place with a strong reputation. While they have their own style, they are still Italian fare and pizza. They will feature occasional live entertainment and will have many other offerings Cliftons never had (full bar, wings, and more)!

Nothing informed, Scott. I just saw this on NextDoor and came here to post it. My own first thoughts, though? Could be Coals ... they've expanded once. Clifton isn't that far from St. Matthews, though, so I don't know if overlap is a concern. Bearnos? They've got branches everywhere. Wick's or Impellizzeri's? Short answer, I dunno. But I'm eager to find out, and glad the space filled so quickly.

Looks like ... Steve O's!

I just got this tip:
Liquor license request in CJ today that matches that address.
Steve O’s Italian Kitchen. They have a location on Hwy 146
in LaGrange. FYI

That looks like a hot tip that's probably the right guess. I was actually thinking maybe it was going to be Boombozz, they don't have any location very close to that area.

Also, the Clifton's folks will be there at the restaurant on Friday night during the trolley hop from 6:30-9:30 selling shirts, logo glasses, logo coffee mugs and ball caps. Cash only until they are gone. They will also be using this time to buy back any unused gift certificates purchased in the last year. Very kind of them!

Thanks, Heather! That was dumb of me not to include that part from NextDoor.

No more Steve-O's on Frankfort Avenue

by Ed Vermillion » Fri Sep 20, 2019 8:58 pm

Steve-O's on Frankfort closed per a call to the Buckner location tonight. No speculation on cause other than trouble with staffing and many negative reviews on Yelp. He tried another Steve-O's several years ago in Crestwood. This is strike two for second spots. Hoping his Buckner location carries on.

Well, hell. That didn't last long enough for me to get over there and try it out. :( I wonder if someone else will take a shot at the venue. Frankfort Avenue is hot enough that it probably won't stay vacant for long.

You didn't miss anything, Robin. Once was enough for us.
