Red Herring - Closing down on Sept 16th.

by JustinHammond » Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:48 am

Per their facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/RedHerringLou/

We want to give a big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past year and a half. We have strived to produce all of your favorite classic cocktails at the highest level while also providing some innovative libations as well. The Clifton neighborhood has given us a beautiful area to serve the wonderful people of Louisville. A special thank you to all of the local neighbors for enjoying our offerings.
It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the closing of our space, here in the Clifton neighborhood. We are grateful for the good times spent in our bar and will never forget them. Be on the lookout for us, as we may be seeking out space more suitable for the concept and changes we have been pushing throughout this past year and a half. Our last day of operation will be September 16th.

Cheers to all!

Waaaaaahhhh!! I really liked that space. Of course, I didn't support it, but I really liked it. :(

Upon reflection, the owner put a tremendous amount of money into renovating the Hilltop Theater building. With Red Herring's commitment to quality, and to paying its workers fair wages, I wonder if its margins were too narrow to make the head office happy. :(

Location becoming a real estate office per Insider.

I don't have any insight into their specific business, but it general restaurant terms, you're pretty correct with the following:

As long as by head office you mean bank/investors...

actually, I'm thinking that the owner's/managment's attitude & responses in this thread may have had more than a little to do with their lack of success?
contents of this thread sure kept us out of the place...

Could be, Willie! I had the impression that the building owner wasn't directly involved in the restaurant management, but what do I know? I eat the food, I don't check the books. ;)

It will be the new headquarters of Kentucky Select Properties.

That will be a great addition to Clifton. Jay Gulick, one of the managing partners, lives in Crescent Hill.

Interestingly, there was a article in business first this morning that the owner of Red Herring just closed on the purchase of a property at 624 W. Main St.

While I'm glad the old theater building was saved from disrepair and demolition, it's sad to see a building that was built for the public and recently reclaimed for the public converted to private use.

No, I'm not kidding. I live in Crescent Hill and support many of the local retail establishments and restaurants. I loved what the Red Herring owners did to the old Hilltop Theatre. And, as another poster said, I hate to see that space "privatized."

That said, KSP has close to 100 employees - most of them successful and many of them very well-compensated. They dine out a lot (with clients and business associates). They can afford to shop, and their work schedules give them time to do that. I'm glad they will be dining and shopping in my neighborhood rather than in the Holiday Manner area where they are currently headquartered.

I know that I went elsewhere when I wanted "above adequate" drinks. :P
