Derby Season events: Post 'em here!

by Robin Garr » Sun Apr 01, 2018 9:54 pm

If you're having a special dinner or other event related to Derby season, from Thunder Over Louisville to day-after-the-race brunch, feel free to post them to this thread with the usual constraints: No further permission needed; change the title to include the restaurant name; and please avoid PR language and stick to the details.

Does anyone have any secret tips on places that are NOT doing something special from Derby and maybe don't require a reservation? We are personally sick of even neighborhood bars (classic example is Hub on Frankfort) trying to turn themselves into prix fixe dinner destinations to maximize profits from sucker tourists....

Good point! In a business of narrow margins, it is truly tempting to go for the extra profit during the season when everyone is doing that. If you really want to avoid it, going ethnic might be the easiest way out. Hit up your local taqueria or Chinese joint, and you might not see a horse.

We'll just be doing our usual Gerstle's goodness for Oaks and Derby. I totally get the temptation to exploit the event, but honestly we find that our success comes more from consistency than trying to run flash specials.

Keri Russell eats free at Mirin.

Otherwise, no specials. Might offer 10% off if you aren’t wearing boat shoes.
