Against the Grain is pleased to announce its new grant award program, Looking Up, in connection with its new podcast, On the Upside, hosted by Adam Watson, co-founder and co-owner of Against the Grain Brewery.
Looking Up is a reimagining of the current informal grant giving process at Against the Grain. Looking Up is structured to give $1K each month to a new community driven project that falls within one of the following focus areas: health, inclusion, environment, and education. Health projects should impact the community at large and might include exercise initiatives or food and garden projects. Inclusion projects should strive to bridge the gap between communities to create a more integrated city. Environment projects might include beautifying neighborhoods and parks via clean up efforts or art installations and murals. Education initiatives can range from k-12 and adult education and have some kind of measurable outcome, i.e. participants will learn to sew, read, write, paint, etc.
Looking Up will fund projects that are small in scope and that directly impact the community. We are interested in projects that can be completed within 3 - 6 months of receiving those funds. We will prioritize projects that can be completely funded by the grant award of $1K. We will consider funding projects outside of this if they are community focused and only if we can close the funding gap to make the project happen.
Funding is available to both individuals and organizations who want to make a difference in our community, and though we prefer a 501c3, we do not require an EIN to apply. The application is a single page with just four questions and can be found online at the On the Upside Facebook page.
