Hepatitis-A @ Sarino rest. on Goss Ave

by Willie Myers » Fri Mar 23, 2018 5:11 pm

reports today that this disease has been found in an employee at the new Sarino on Goss ave. They're saying, if you dined there between Feb. 24 and Mar. 15, you should be aware:

Yep, I checked the calendar right away when I saw that! We were in during the first week of February, though.

I got a snarky post on the Facebook HotBytes page, but I honestly don't think this says anything bad about Sarino. Hiring a dishwasher who turns out to have Hep A doesn't mean you run a dirty restaurant.

No and if anyone in a restaurant should be squeaky clean it's the cat who is knee deep in the soap suds.

Still, seriously, wash those hands, kids. And get the vaccine.

Agreed. For the record, though, there's no report that anyone who ate there got the disease. I wonder how they found out. Is Metro Health testing kitchen staff? Or are doctors and urgent care centers supposed to track down employers and determine who's been in contact? Curious questions that I hadn't thought of before.

That is interesting. If you are diagnosed you are supposed to inform your employer, but how that gets from there to news is unclear. We just had a health inspection and no one tested me for anything beyond having the lightbulbs covered in the storeroom...

All types of acute viral hepatitis (A, B, and C) are automatically reported to the health department by the testing laboratory. The health department then does the investigative work of tracking down the patient's exposure history, employment, etc.

can you make any sense out of this one?
"People should be worried because they should be worried, not because they dined at one specific restaurant," Gabriele said.
That was one of Sarino's owner's comment in the C-J today....

Charitable interpretation: It could happen anywhere.
I dined there 3/9, so needless to say I was a bit “hmmmmm” about the story. But I enjoyed the meal, and I do believe “it could happen anywhere,” so I’ll go back.
