A Day In the Life of a Line Cook at a Fancy NYC Restaurant

by Robin Garr » Sun Mar 04, 2018 5:11 pm

Fascinated by the idea of a chef's life? You'll have to pay line cook dues first, and it isn't easy, as this engaging piece from Bon Appetit nicely tells.

It kind of boggles my mind that a very demanding job requiring special talented people like that only pays $15 an hour in NYC.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked by that salary figure as well. $15.hr in NYC? Can that be real?

And yet, it's clear to me that having a career in the culinary field is part mental illness, because after reading that article all I could think of was how amazing it would be to be 30 again and working in one of the hottest NYC kitchens of the day. What an incredible opportunity.
