Shrimp Boil?

by Kim H » Fri Oct 13, 2017 12:24 am

Hi! I've never made a shrimp boil, but have eaten quite a few. I'm partial to the flavors of Old Bay, but they don't seem to sell a shrimp/crab boil packet around here. Not sure if they quit making it, if its regional, but I can't find it online either. I see that Zataran's sells it, but I know my sis was disappointed with their crab cake mix, so I'm hesitant. I've been thinking about loading up the water with OB powder, celery, bay leaves, onion... I dunno. Suggestions? Also, do you like the Zataran's boil? Wanting simple. TIA!

I'm useless on this one, but I wonder if the Seafood Lady ever does 'em. Or Selena's. (Thinking you could go for one and chat up the staff ... )

I like Zatarain's flavors just fine, Kim. When my sister lived in Louisiana (Bossier City, though, not NOLA), they put Tony Chachere's seasoning on just about everything. It's available in Louisville I'm sure.

They made Tony's crawfish ("mudbug") boil a lot, and it was delicious. Do you think you could just substitute shrimp?

I've really enjoyed Zatarain's packaged products (with my own fresh additions), but it's been a while since I've had any of them. I grew up with Old Bay, so I'm a bit partial. I tried Tony's seasoning years ago, and found it quite salty. Good suggestion tho, and I'll keep it in my back pocket. Good chance there's a low sodium version now. I have some shrimpies in the freezer, and am just now getting mobile enough to cook, thought this would be a fun, easy way to go. I did find this, which I think I'll try. I'll post a post review in case it's helpful to anyone else (won't be till next week) http://oldbay.com/Recipes/Shrimp/Main-C ... -Fest.aspx
