HELP: What's the best chicken & waffles in Louisville?

by Andrew Mellman » Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:22 am

I have a niece coming to town, and all she asked is that I take her for her favorite food: chicken & waffles. I checked menus and found it at Butchertown Grocery, Red Barn, Superchefs, Wild Eggs, Silver Dollar, and a few others, but I have never eaten this dish out in Louisville. Which does anyone recommend??? Any help and/or other suggestions would be appreciated! (while she likes mild rather than hot, any suggestions would be appreciated!)

We checked in at Superchefs last week, and I was really impressed with the overall quality of the cooking. No one at our table had chicken and waffles, but I saw some go by, and they looked legit. I think it's a safe bet.

I've had the one at Red Barn and the one at the Butchertown Grocery and prefer the one at Red Barn between those two.

Chicken and waffles are my son's go to dish whenever we eat at Joella's but the heat may be a bit much there just depends.

The Troll's chicken and waffle sandwich is a pretty solid option, IMO.

Four Pegs has a popular chicken and waffles sandwich. I thought it was pretty tasty.

I like the chicken and waffles at Joella's, and I love the chicken and waffle sandwich at Four Pegs. At Joella's, if you don't want heat, you don't have to get heat (or you can get the plain fried chicken and the spiced honey, which is a nice little buzz of heat). Four Pegs has been good every time I've gone. I know 502 Cafe Smokehouse has buttermilk fried chicken and bacon waffles with bourbon maple syrup, but I haven't had it.
