Welcome to the Louisville Restaurants Forum, a civil place for the intelligent discussion of the local restaurant scene and just about any other topic related to food and drink in and around Louisville.
my first intro to "Chicago-style" - a few years back - was Portillo's. Immediate love!! Then Lonnie's opened here and I had my first "Clark Street"... Believe me, if you're a hotdog fan, you can't do better than Lonnie's little shop on St. Mathews Ave.... http://lonniesbesttasteofchicago.com/
Oh yes - and it's run by some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet in this town!
Glad you finally found it! I don't get much press here but they certainly are a jewel as far as local eating establishments go. They are run by some very nice people, have great food and reasonable prices. Besides they are one of the few places in town that I can get a good hot dog with natural casings! Also they were very accommodating when I asked him about handicap accessibility since their billing was not accessible previously. They corrected the issue quite quickly and efficiently.
We've followed them from Westport Rd down to the current location on St. Matthews, and they just keep getting better. And, a definite +1 to the positive comments about the people working there!
I agree that those folks are so sweet! I hadn't been in awhile and stopped by to get something to drink. I was remembered and I said I would return soon for food! Good eats! I like the polish sausage with chili and cheese on he poppy seed roll.
You just had to go and mention that Chicago beef, eh Jerry? Alas, the last two bites of my sandwich never stood a chance. If there had been five more they would have succumbed as well. My only complaint with Lonnie's is that I'm always torn...so many delicious choices.
I have never had anything but great lunches at Lonnie's. The hot dogs are great. The french fries are always hot and fresh an the people are incredibly nice. I love supporting a place like this.
