This sure doesn't sound good. :(

A chef at a popular downtown Louisville restaurant has been arrested after authorities say he started a fire at that restaurant.

According to the Louisville Metro Arson Bureau, it happened at the 8UP: Elevated Drinkery & Kitchen atop the Hilton Garden Inn at 250 W. Chestnut Street in downtown Louisville.

An arrest report states that 29-year-old Benjamin Comfort, "intentionally started a fire" in the building Saturday, at around 5:30 p.m.

His actions were caught on video, according to the arrest report.

I was there when this happened. When the alarm went off no one paid any attention to it. After about 3 minutes someone came outside and said it was real and we needed to take the steps down. Half way down the 8 flights of steps the alarm quit, we were told to keep moving. After 8-10 minutes on the ground the all clear was given to return. We chose to move on.

Better down eight flights than up eight flights, I guess.

BTW, the WDRB piece called him the chef, but it's clear that he was a line cook. Still troubling, but it wasn't the person in charge.

How is it that the PR agency releases a statement that the fire was unintended, when the cook had already been charged with 1st degree arson?

I know.
I personally found it hysterical that they decided it was a good idea to disagree with the police assessment, because- you know- PR firms are experts in detecting arson....

I would note that the title of this thread implies that the person who started the fire was the owner of the restaurant. At first glance that's what I thought. It wasn't really "his own restaurant," it was the place where he worked.

Right ... if you read down the thread, you'll note that the conversation quickly became aware of WDRB's original error and tweaked it. Still, that's a fair point. I'll edit the original headline.
