Seeking brunch with a view, especially Sunday

by Laura SS » Sun Apr 30, 2017 11:12 am

Frequent reader, infrequent poster, with a challenge: we're in the mood for brunch. We'd also love a view, but not of the city -- what we crave is a nature view. Green space or river, trees or water, creek or forest or field, even a nice little courtyard that's well done, doesn't much matter. Our little Highlands yard just isn't cutting it, but it's a little steamy and damp for a picnic. Several first-thought candidates are closed, either because it's Sunday or for long-term/permanent closure. Dreaming of a lovely little tea house with light, delicious things and a green atmosphere, but just not sure where to find that. Don't want to taint the results, so I won't mention the places we've considered. Curious to see what you all suggest!

(FWIW, we don't eat red meat or pork, so fancy hams and roasts and such don't really sway us. And we have a grade-schooler, for that extra little twist.)

The 1st place I came to mind when reading your post was 211 Clover. It's not really out in the country but they have a very nice little courtyard where you can eat. Their brunch menu has quite a few options that may interest you.

If you are primarily after a nice view and don't mind a 40-45 minute drive, The Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth IN might be a good choice. I haven't been in quite some time but it used to be family style / home style fare; nothing too fancy but enjoyable just the same.

Laura, I may be a little late for this week, but Captain's Quarters might do. It's famous for the riverside and Harrods Creek view, and their Sunday buffet is exceptional. Selena's is a little less expansive, but it has an attractive patio, and there's a small woods around.

These are all brilliant ideas, and almost none of them had occurred to us! We didn't really get what we were after today, so I'm filing these away for very-soon experiments. :D

True but she said she did want a view of the city and that's what you get from Rivue, the city and the river.

If you don't mind the drive, check out the cafe at Bernheim Forest. The food is fresh, locally sourced (some of it right from their own gardens) and, while limited, the menu is creative. I've never had a bad meal there. Keep in mind if you do go on a Sunday there will be a $5 car charge unless you are a member. But, it's beautiful!
