Derby dinners and events

by Robin Garr » Wed Mar 15, 2017 9:03 am

Post 'em here, no additional permission needed, but please remember to follow the usual two rules: (1) Put the restaurant name in the subject line, and (2) tone down the PR language and hype. Just the facts, please, without the superlatives.

Thunder at Parlour and Portage House

by Robin Garr » Thu Apr 13, 2017 4:14 pm

Parlour and Portage House in Southern Indiana will offer afternoon and evening events April 22 during the air show and Thunder Over Louisville fireworks.

Parlour, the new pizzeria, beer garden, and cocktail lounge which opened April 5 at the foot of the Big Four Bridge in Jeffersonville, has organized a craft brew festival. Six regional beer producers including Sun King from Indianapolis; Daredevil from Speedway, IN; Upland from Bloomington, IN; New Albanian from New Albany, IN; and Against the Grain and Falls City from Louisville, will be serving up brews under tents in a lawn area with three fire pits and numerous beer garden tables. Doors open at 11 a.m. and tickets are available at the door for $30. The price includes two regional drafts. Pizza-by-the-slice, fresh from the restaurant’s 8,000-pound Italian oven, will be sold. Parlour is on the grounds of the Historic Duffy Hancock House, a restored 1836 neoclassical mansion at 131 W. Chestnut Street in Jeffersonville.

Portage House will hold a special dinner with oyster and sparkling wine pairings on the veranda of the restored late 19th century home. The restaurant, which opened October 27, is on the riverbank in Jeffersonville at 117 E. Riverside Drive, just a few hundred yards from the Thunder launch site on the Big Four Bridge. The 40-seat veranda offers unobstructed views of the show and the Louisville skyline. A ticket is $150, and includes a prime viewing seat along with six Connecticut Blue Point Oysters and a glass of Piper-Heidsieck. Chef Paul Skulas will also offer his full menu of Midwestern cuisine from Indiana and Kentucky farms. Favorites include grilled cheese topped with a fried egg, drizzled in sorghum and stuffed with goat cheese; a fried pork chop sandwich; and whole roasted trout. Call (812) 725-0435 to reserve tickets on the veranda.
