Laboratory Glassware

by Jay M. » Sat Feb 04, 2017 9:42 am

Has this become a thing? I've been noticing scientific glassware flasks and beakers appearing in bars/restaurants: 500 ml beakers as stirred cocktail mixing containers at The Manhattan Project and The Hub and Erlenmeyer flasks for water on the tables at The Hub.

Actually, that beaker is a perfect cocktail prep device (cheap, too).

First I've seen. I kind of like it if one place does it. I think it would get boring fast if everyone started doing it.

I've been using 50 mL beakers for shot glasses at home for a long time! They are a great size and have markings so you can measure out smaller quantities for mixing.

As a scientist, I think lab glassware is awesome. I have had a young man make me a drink using lab glassware and it took him about 10 minutes. He was dressed like a steampunk and had a moustache style which required more product to maintain than I used in the entire year of 1987 (which was quite a lot). The drink was fine, but after waiting so long for him to "craft" it I was a little disappointed.

If lab glassware makes more drinks more quickly, then I'm in.

I've seen this in a few places. As long as it fits the vibe of the place, I say why not. But like Robin, if they start showing up at the dive bar, you'll know it's run it's course.
