I was in the Smokey Mountains over the weekend and stopped in Asheville (first time there) for a day to explore. My fiance and I grabbed lunch at a vegetarian/vegan spot called Laughing Seed Cafe. This is a must if you are in town and looking for an array of options (similar to Ramsi's). Everything from reubens and indian to raw veggie dishes. The drink menu is out of this world with alcoholic and non-alcoholic concoctions (I had the jalapeno-raspberry lemonade).

Thanks for the suggestion, Neal. Some friends were in Asheville recently and liked it, but I think they missed this place.

The dining in Asheville is tremendous right now. It's really unbelievable how many great places are there. From down-home country cooking places slinging grits and biscuits to cutting edge tapas at places like Curate. The chef from Blackberry Farm opened a great place there called Rhubarb.

Asheville is a model of what you can do with a beautiful mountain setting.

Meanwhile, our mountains just get their tops removed . . .
