The Halfway House (in Old Town) is a good place if you're on a budget, and is reputed to be the smallest pub in Edinburgh (a "cozy boozer" as has been described - and it IS rather small)...it's been a while since I've been there, but I think they have a website...seem to recall a couple of places along Princes Street, but the names escape me...stumbled into Edinburgh one summer during the Fringe - lots of fun.
