My daughter will be in Edinburgh performing at the Fringe Festival. Was wondering if anyone had any inexpensive food experiences to share? Budget will be a concern.

I was there in 1981. It was a cool city. I visited the castle, had the haggis in a hotel dining room and drank some Scotch in pubs. I don't guess this is helping much.

 well...I don't know. I will pass it along but if she eats haggis I will be amazed. I'm sure she will try the scotch but then I've given her plenty of recommendations on that!

The Halfway House (in Old Town) is a good place if you're on a budget, and is reputed to be the smallest pub in Edinburgh (a "cozy boozer" as has been described - and it IS rather small)...it's been a while since I've been there, but I think they have a website...seem to recall a couple of places along Princes Street, but the names escape me...stumbled into Edinburgh one summer during the Fringe - lots of fun.

Thanks John! I'll pass it along to Sarah. It'll tickle her because it came from you. You should stumble back to the The a Fringe and see Sarah perform. It's going to be great!

Believe me, I would enjoy seeing Edinburgh (and Sarah) again; unfortunately, my tentative travel plans later this summer may take me in the opposite direction (SoCal)... 8)

Haggis actually tastes better than it sounds (if you don't dwell too much on the ingredients) ...keep the Neeps and Tatties handy (Turnips and Potatoes), and don't forget the Scotch...
