Places near Burdorfs ......

by Becky M » Tue Oct 15, 2013 2:11 pm

I tried on my own to find something, but was completely overwhelmed; the place is saturated.

I'm looking for something/places that are fairly quick and inexpensive for quick lunch dates...... And also places for dinner after work.

As far as type.....anything goes, as it is sans kiddos. Chinese, ethnic, Mexican, BBQ, etc.....

Price wise, preferably under 15pp.

Oh and as the title states......near the Burdorfs building.

Burdorf's? The former Bacon's? Well, 60 West is right in the building! BBC is right next door, Mellow Mushroom is right across the street, and Coals Pizza is just a block or two west. Molly Malone's, across the street. Cafe Lou Lou, a couple of blocks out US 60, ditto Equus and Jack's, Havana Rumba, Del Frisco's and ... is Charim Korean still there. Majid's is in the shopping center behind it, and 211 Clover just out the road from that. I'm just scratching the surface here, but thinking out loud, BBC might be a fine choice. Or Coal's. Or Simply Thai or Nam Nam Vietnamese or Saigon Cafe or El Torasco. Or if you're around at lunch time, Meridian Cafe or The Cheddar Box. Lonnie's, or Tom+Chee.

I've left out a lot. And I see what you mean about being overwhelmed! But I think BBC might be your answer.

Becky, Oriental House is really good, but it's a little farther out from Burdorf's. Maybe only a five-minute drive, depending on traffic - it's just east of Fairmeade on Shelbyville Road, the next traffic light after the big one at Hubbards Lane.

Is lemongrass cafe still right around the corner? If so, I really like them for affordable multi-Asian-ethnic cuisine: Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese. The original spot on Bardstown Rd is now called La Que (kinda like Ramiro's used to be Sol Aztecas), and I don't know how different the menus are now, but I am completely in love with their vegetarian hot and sour soup. I think they serve some of the most affordable bang for your buck meals of it's genre, and are more conscientious than you'd expect for the price point.

That said, Becky, Meridian Cafe would be my favorite suggestion. It's kind of ethnic in the sense that they serve a variety of hummus and falafel on pita sandwiches, but it's grown into something way beyond that. It's the kind of place that you spend 15 minutes deciding on your order because you want to try everything. They have some incredibly creative shakes and smoothies, too. And carry-out is a cinch.

I'm pretty sure that both places have working websites.

The Feed Bag is often overlooked, but has a tasty budget friendly lunch as well. :D
"Sandwiched" (bad pun intended  ) in the parking lot behind Porter Paints and Meridian Cafe, across Willis Ave from Nanz & Kraft.

Drake's - also in the building - isn't the worst bite in town! It's a "chain" of around 5 Lexington restaurants, which has migrated with two locations in Louisville. More of a bar, it's fish tacos are a great (very filling) lunch or dinner, and several of its sandwiches are recommended.

Ya'll left off the best place...Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago. Bluegrass BBQ is also right across the street...Never eaten there so I can't vouch for 'em.

My wife and I ate at Lonnie's for the first time yesterday. Italian sausage, a cheesy beef, a large fries to split and two drinks. Food was great, and for $18 you can't beat it.

It varies - sometimes fried chicken, sometimes fried pork chops, sometimes chicken fried steak, etc. Always with sides such as greens, beans and so forth.
