Deb Hall wrote:Any suggestions for great food, in a family friendly place? We are heading to Nashville/Franklin for Easter and looking for a couple of great places to go. We'll likely be downtown one day, Franklin part of the other; we rented a house so we will also be cooking in.

Thanks!
Deb

For Franklin, Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant is a lot of fun. http://www.puckettsgrocery.com/ I think the Franklin location is the original.

We once dined at the Red Pony in Franklin and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The house-baked breads served prior were great too.

I know I sound like a broken record here, but we took both our boys to City House (also in Germantown, just up the street from Monell's) and it was fine. Better than fine really, my guys loved it. It's not the kind of place that typically would be called family-friendly, but they knew how to deal with kids well enough.

Lora,

We went to the Puckett's downtown and really enjoyed it for the live music. The food was primarily very good country cooking. Recommend for a great time! We also went to The Loveless Cafe for breakfast/brunch. It's an iconic country place that's grown into its own tourist attraction with gift shop, etc. http://www.lovelesscafe.com/. The food and service were very good, biscuits were excellent. No reservations, expect a wait.

Also, if you are looking for something to do, Cheekwood Gardens and its historical mansion are beautiful and well-worth a couple of hours.

Enjoy!

I think I'm a bit late to help Lora, but I'll respond anyway as I've been to Nashville half a dozen times over the last year for business.

City House (http://cityhousenashville.com/) was our go-to, but our last visit there was very underwhelming, unfortunately. It could have just been an off night.

One of the best meals I've had in years was at Etch a few months ago (http://etchrestaurant.com/). Really outstanding, creative food, a great atmosphere, and some of the most friendly, helpful service ever.

I ate at Husk (http://www.husknashville.com/), Sean Brock's new Nashville iteration of his popular Charleston, SC restaurant, and it was pretty good. It's been super-hyped up since it opened a month or two ago, so I was expecting more. The food was quite good, just not outstanding. Service was not-so-good, but the space is beautiful. It kind of reminds me of Corbett's, being in a renovated old home.

Finally, Rolf and Daughters (http://rolfanddaughters.com/) is all the rage right now, but I haven't been yet.

Thanks for your updates Deb and Brad-

Hubby and I had a great time and for those on the "back side of 40" we can really appreciate why all ages enjoy the Nashville area. It's close proximity make it a great weekend get-away.

Update for all-

Thursday- Lunch at Monell's- Germantown location. We read many reviews and took them all in stride. We were looking forward to their family-style and fried chicken. I posted a review on tripadvisor that sums it up- Glad we went- probably won't return. The timing was "off" which did in fact affect the quality of the food. We were seated at a table for 12 with 7 already seated and served the cold salads. What this meant to us was the pile-up of bowls were right where we were seated so by the time introductions were made, etc. and we started serving ourselves...the hot dishes were served. So all the hot food made it's way around exactly as we finished plating colds and barely had a bite of anything before we had to set another round of bowls down in front of ourselves. With 3 empty chairs to our left- this then made Hubby have to physically stand to pass anything around to the front of the line. Had we been able to actually have time to taste anything when actually served- it would have been good.

Thursday night we did our first round of "honky-tonkin" - we had dinner at Demo's- very good for the price and service was excellent. Hubby had the cajun' pasta and liked it, I had the pasta duo of their brown butter and spicy Italian sausage with red sauce- VERY GOOD!

We enjoyed a 2 block walk down to Broadway and very much enjoyed Legends and Robert's Western. Robert's Western food wise is known for their recession special of fried bologna sandwich, chips and PBR for $5.00- the grille was loaded while we were there.

We visited Belle Meade Plantation and Winery on Friday- very nice tour and the Wine Guys were awesome!

Friday night we were lazy and stayed in and did not go out to eat.

Saturday we visited their Farmer's Market and it was awesome! New Albany, IN could aspire to this level as we have enough interest and vendors now- I wish someone had the time and resources to help take it to this level.

Hubby surprised me with reservations at an unknown place to me- until our car service for the evening arrived- Jimmy Kelly's Steakhouse. WOW! WOW! WOW! Located in a mansion on the outskirts of Vandy's campus it was beautiful. Our service was spot on- MARCUS has only been there for a little over 4 years - but he is experienced from some other fine dining establishment his timing is perfect. This is a true steakhouse $$$. The prime special was an 18 oz BONE IN FILET. Hubby's eyes rolled back in his head on that one! So yes, we ordered it and a 20 oz cowboy ribeye. Both steaks were perfectly cooked to medium/medium rare. We split a shrimp cocktail and the creamed spinach "side to share". Both were excellent. Mike Kelly the owner greets everyone as they walk in and is constantly working the rooms without disruption. Drinks were very good.

We enjoyed our long weekend and now have about 15 other places we want to try upon on next adventure to Nash-Vegas
