Atlanta eateries .....

by Becky M » Mon Apr 01, 2013 9:47 am

We will be in Atlanta this weekend and I am wanting some suggestions for BBQ....or just good soul food, comfort food. If there are any good Latino ideas, that would be great.

Our hotel is actually in Alpharetta.

Thanks!

I've never had the chance to eat at either, but these are on my must try BBQ list for Atlanta.

Swallow in the Hollow is an excellent BBQ place in Roswell GA, which is very close to Alpharetta. Good luck.

I used to go to Mary Mac's Tea Room for pot liquor and corn bread, fried chicken and sweet tea. I haven't been to Atlanta in ages, but it looks like it's still in business: http://www.marymacs.com/

For barbecue - Fatt Matt's is great atmosphere but tiny and not the greatest bbq imho. I can't imagine it will be easy to get in the door this weekend. Swallow in the Hollow is top notch and close to where you are staying. The former chef there is in a new place also close to you and worth a visit. 'Cue Barbecue.

For latino there is El Taco Veloz. Several locations and is authentic and awesome. I am also a huge fan of Taqueria Del Sol.

Have fun and let us know what places you hit!

We went to La Fonda for Latino cuisine and liked it a lot. http://www.fellinisatlanta.com/lafonda.html

And don't miss Sublime Doughnuts for a sugar-rush breakfast! http://sublimedoughnuts.com/index.php

If you are making the trip then let us recommend you stop in Marietta, GA on the way down for a great meal before going on to the Georgia Dome for the Game. We recommend The Butcher The Baker, 25 North Park Square, Marietta GA for your dining pleasure. Louisvillian Micah Pfister and his wife Katie run this locally owned farm to table restaurant that focuses on bringing a new taste to the Marietta Square, by depending entirely on our local farmers, seasonality, and house made to give you the best dining experience possible.

May not be BBQ but it is good food.

And, one more thing. If you bring your receipt from there back to Louisville and take it to NUTS N STUFF before the 21st you'll get 10% off your entire order. Micah is the son of the owners of NNS, Paul and Mel Pfister.
