Shoes for kids....where?

by Nimbus Couzin » Wed Sep 12, 2012 5:20 pm

Hi,
Title pretty much says it. My 4 year old has pretty much survived on hand me downs, but now we need some new shoes. I know about zappos, but that is a long drive.

Anybody recommend where to get kids shoes, hopefully at a decent price? (they grow fast!) Gym shoes are probably what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Stride Rites are good, but ridiculously expensive. a basic pair will cost about $38-50 dollars. However, the same factory hat makes stride rites also makes the Sure Fits from Payless. We've bought both from our son (who has a really wide foot). They may not last quite as long as he brand name, but their feet grow so fast at that age, that he probably won't wear them out before growing out of them.
You can find used shoes at Once Upon A Child, but sometimes I'm shocked at the condition of items they resell.
I'd go for payless! We also get decent shoes at Target too and sometimes Kohls.

Nimbus,

I gave up buying high-end shoes with my second - especially when they are little. We get new shoes mostly at Target; their Champion brand shoes are decent. I also pick up shoes at consignment stores and garage sales on occasion- I keep them stored for when he grows into them.

Ok..he's ahead of my son. We have some barely worn shoes that are too small for yours!

My 8 year old wears size 13 too. He has little feet like his Mom. :D
Thanks for the lead on Payless, Megan- I bought him a pair there yesterday.
