Hard to imagine top 2 sports guys leaving at same time. How bad must things be down there? Another bit of local flavor gone.

Well, I'm a long-time singer in that choir. After working for the Binghams at the old Louisville Times and suffered through its death, I saw the handwriting on the wall and left at the beginning of 1990, and I've never regretted that decision. It's been downhill ever since Gannett came in the middle '80s, so we're talking about 25 years of devolution now.

I don't know the new publisher Wes Jackson at all, but without even snarking about his physical appearance but merely considering his heritage in advertising and promotion, I can't believe the Binghams aren't spinning merrily in their graves.

This is such a huge blow to the CJ it's stunning. Bozich and Crawford were the stars of the sports section, which was the only franchise the CJ had left. Will sports now be a compilation of USA Today cut and pastes? Or will they take it down to one page like the arts and business?

I will be interesting to see how WDRB delivers the work of these two guys. I can't say I'll suddenly start watching WDRB because they are there - my behavior just won't change that quickly. I'll be looking for an RSS feed or email list from them, though.

That sports section has lost those two, Pat Forde (ESPN, now Yahoo), Brian Bennett (ESPN), and Jerry Brewer (Seattle Times). Jerry's the only one who moved "up the ladder" to another print publication. IIRC, Seattle is also his hometown.

Makes sense, and sounds a lot like Robin's commentary on the subject.
