Butcher's twine?

by Sara R » Wed Feb 29, 2012 11:11 am

I have looked for butcher's twine at 2 different Krogers and at Target. Any ideas on where I might find it? I saw online that Williams Sonoma has it, but a small roll is $8. That seems a bit pricey, but maybe that's just how much it costs. I know theirs is made out of a special kind of linen that won't burn/turn brown.

Hmmmmm....I know I've seen it at Krogers (in the aisle with all the little kitchen gizmos)...but maybe not all Krogers carry it. I also think Linda carrys it at Cooking at the Cottage in The Vogue. Another option is to ask the person behind the meat counterr at Krogers for a few feet of it...they have it in the back, I gauantee it.

I don't know how much you need, but Kingsley's will give me a good bit when I'm there just by asking. Of course, I'm also buying meat.

The Fresh Market has it. Kitchen sized roll.

and if you are just doing a roast or something ask the meat cutter for some. They'll give you a few feet of it.

Another idea:
I love our silicone Food Loops. I know I can use twine, but I find these so simple and handy to have around. I use them for trussing, making roulades, making bouquet garni, etc. Reusable and the bright color makes then easy to find in your food. Amazon has them http://www.amazon.com/Fusionbrands-15-Inch-Silicone-Food-Trussing/dp/B000P6IOPM, but you may find locally.

Bed Bath and Beyond sells a roll for $5, it's enough to last a dozen roast or so.

Oooh, those are cool silicone ties.

On a related note, this looks intriguing:

Gotta love silicone kitchen gizmos!

Sara, lots of options on Amazon with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime or make a $25+ order:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=butcher%27s+twine&x=0&y=0#/ref=sr_nr_p_76_0?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Abutcher%27s+twine%2Cp_76%3A1-&keywords=butcher%27s+twine&ie=UTF8&qid=1330568547

Some include dispensers and cutters. (Wish I still had my dad's antique cast iron string dispenser.)

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I ended up just asking the Kroger butcher for a small amount. They were happy to oblige.

Again, thanks to all for the help!

Trade secret, I've never ever bought a spool of butchers twine. I've just always used the string that the linen company uses to bundle up the side towels with. :D 8)
