Fighter/trainer jet at Bowman

by Mike Hardin » Thu Jan 12, 2012 10:42 am

I drove by Bowman field this morning and saw a fighter or trainer jet parked there. It was painted a blue/grey camouflage. Are there any plane enthusiasts here who know anything about it?

My guess would be either (most likely) a T-38 Talon or possibly an F-5...both of which more or less use the same air frame. The T-38 was/is the Air Force's primary jet trainer for many years. Given that Bowman doesn't have any type of military security presence (a requirement when military A/C remain over night at civilian airports) I'm betting the jet was privately owned. You can probably buy one just like it here...

Thank you. Looks a lot like the T-38.

Wonder if it is the one owned by Jay Gordon that he flies in Thunder's air show? It is hangered at Bowman. It's an eastern European (can't recall the country) trainer.

Sounds like it to me. If so, it's a Czech L-39 jet trainer.

Does this look familiar: http://www.flickr.com/photos/silenus81/6158213800/ or here http://www.flickr.com/photos/silenus81/6157039145/

Google NX139RT for numerous pictures of the plane on the ramp at Bowman Field or videos of the plane in Thunder Over Louisville
