Gyros Kit?

by Martin Alan Hirsch » Fri Mar 16, 2007 6:23 pm

Hi,
We used to be able to get a Gyros kit with all ingredients at Kroger - Highlands.
They don't carry it anymore.
Does anyone know where to find these now?
Thanks!

When you find out, please let me know. They are one of my flavorite foods on EARTH. No, flavorite was not incorrectly spelled. It's a new word in MY language.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Doogy,
I called Kronos up north who makes the kit. They call it Mediterranean Chef Family Kit and they referred me to Clark Foods and Sisco here in Louisville. I will call them tomorrow and see who they are selling the kit to.

Gyros

You can get the gyros meat sliced and frozen at GFS. They also have the type of pita that you don't split, but use as a roll, also frozen. I make the tisziki sauce myself, so I did not look for it, but GFS may carry it.

Also, I think I saw the kit at Valu Market at Mid City, but have not been ther in a couple of weeks.

I have made the meat base like a meatloaf with seasoned ground lamb and beef, it is not firm like the kits, but it tastes good.

GFS (Gordon Food Service) is located off Hurstbourne and is next to Bone Fish. GFS has bulk food, kind of like Costco, just smaller.

Sorry, forgot to put the locations(on good meds for a pinched nerve!). Other GFS are at Dixie Hwy and Greenwood Rood and behind Jefferson Mall.

For those not familiar with GFS, they are a large full service institutional food delivery, much the same as Sysco. The stores do not have minimum charges, or charges for memberships. Most of their stuff is larger quantities such as spices, meat, cans, etc. Good value if you have storage space and/or freezer space. Good selection of kitchen utensils.

I don't know if they can order things that they do not carry in the stores. The stores are designed for small food service places, but are very good for individuals.

Gyros Kit....

They carry them at the Meijer's in Jeffersonville, so I would assume all local stores carry them. It's the Kronos brand and they are in the bulk frozen aisle. Also, you can try Aldi's. Sometimes they have them as well.
