Best BBQ Pulled Pork?

by Kim H » Wed Jun 22, 2011 4:51 pm

I sure would appreciate input - I am taking smoked pulled pork to a family reunion in WV next weekend, but would love opinions on who has the best in town. Our fav place for ribs is FABD, but I can't remember their pulled pork. Love the brisket at Jucy's. Liked, but don't remember being wowed by their pork, but it's been a long time. Thoughts? TIA!!!!!!

We really like the pulled pork at Texican's in Crestwood. They do a great job.

I would stick with FABD pulled pork also, I am also a fan of their smoked white chicken.
You definitely cannot beat their prices either.

Oh, we've not tried Texicans! Maybe we'll check them out Sunday if they're open - might be a great option.

I've been thinking about maybe going with FABD. We like a lot of smokey flavor, and they definitely have that. (hmmm, I want bbq now!!)

Texicans is my favorite BBQ and their brisket is the best I've ever had. But the last time I tried them on a Sunday, they were closed. Their hours seem to jump around a bit. Maybe call them ahead of time, or even on Saturday?

Yeah, I always forget that in general, Sundays aren't a good day for bbq in this town! Guss everyone needs at least 1 day off. I called Texicans. Hours are 11-8 M-F, and 11-3 on Sat. We're going to check them out when we get back from our trip. Thank you for the info, Jeffery, and to all who offered input!

Whose family? Hubby's reunion for the Elder (name, not age) side of the family in WV was this past weekend. Unfortunately, we did not go, he had to work in Evansville.

Just to add to the barbeque discussion (one of my favorite subjects!) but how does Shack in the Back stack up? (and why don't we have a drooling emoticon?!!!)

My only trip to Shack in the Back occurred on a day they were preparing for a fundraiser and were closed to the public...Thus I did not actually try their pork. That being said, my little BBQ antenna were just-a-quivering at the smell coming from their smokers, so if "vibes" mean anything then I'm betting this is the real deal. Shack in the Back in number #1 on my hit parade of places to try.

Shack in the Back is all that. Awesome pulled pork and brisket. I have not had the ribs there. I got the pleasure of spending all day there shooting a commercial. The folks who own it are really nice and they do things the old fashioned way. Real smoke. No supplemental heat from gas. They have a guy who comes in when they are closing and he spends all night in the smoke shack cooking good food. Worth the drive.
