I remember the Nosh Box, and I definitely remember the Old House. It was a Louisville institution, and it did last into the '80s, as I recall.

Do you remember what the menu was like at the Old House? I never ate there but remember passing it all the time.

I am sure The Normandy, or at least part of it, was downstairs as they would pass us sandwiches from the kitchen door which was on ground level. But I was so very very young what do I know?

Gary, We may be saying the same thing. As I remember it, Normandy actually was ground level since you entered it in the front off Main Street and it was on the same level as Main Street. Hearthstone was on an underground level, below Normandy, and was entered in the back off that alley between that building and what was then Kingfish. (Or was it entered from the side, off 7th street? I'm fuzzy on that). I don't know where the kitchens were for either of them Maybe they shared a kitchen?

Will, I lunched at The Old House semi-regularly, (and drank there after work more than semi-regularly). You entered on the street level and then went up a half flight or so of stairs to elegant, white table-clothed dining rooms or went down a half flight or so to a bar, with a few tables. It was a great restaurant. Owned/ran by Erma somebody. Maybe Dick? I think her family had been involved with it for many years. She was a true hostess, making sure everything and everybody was good. They served a great lunch special, two small beef tenderloin medallions with hollandaise sauce and a great bread, maybe sourdough (or French - not sure), and it was about all I ever ordered there. I think one or more of the Francis brothers maybe had an interest in it toward the end, or maybe was a bartender or something. I'm thinking it was Pat, but might have been Mike. Or I could easily be confused about the whole thing. Tons of ambience. And good food, too.
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

I think the disco at Dupont Sq was called Harlow's. I also remember Peter Outlaws. (In fact my brother, myself and my sweet heart were escorted off their grounds for partying in their double decker bus... when it was closed and locked. )

I wasn't much on disco, but remember the names. Didn't Harlow's have a lighted dance floor and roller disco?

Troubadour, hell yeah. Didn't they have a swimming pool for a while?

Granted, I drank a lot in those days... But I played music at the Hearthstone Tavern long enough that I had a weeks paid vacation (as a musician!?!?) from Paul, the truck-driver owner of both the Hearthstone and the Normandy. In the early '70s I played there originally splitting the nights with Nancy Johnson (who got me the gig), then with Will Cary. In both situations we each did a set and then a duo set... I'd also go next door to the Normandy on my breaks where the duo (both played upright bass, one played guitar, one played piano) and do a few songs as a trio with them.

The entrance to the Hearthstone was on 2nd Street (with the bridge ramp on the other side of the street) and the entrance to the Normandy was around the corner on W. Washington Street.

That's my story & I'm sticking to it!

With fond memories... David Trabue

Honestly, I'm not much of a foodie, but I was googling trying to find photos of some of my old venues from when I made a living playing music in Louisville. The Washington Street area (as well as the Cherokee area) was good to me. The Hearthstone, Normandy, Great Midwestern, Red Dog Saloon... All full of wonderful memories, but dang hard to find photos from back in the day (early to mid 70s...).

I don't know if "Upload attachment" means I can post a photo, but if so, here is myself & Will Cary at the Hearthstone circa 1972 or '73...

Your upload worked fine! The only problem some folks have is trying to upload a photo that's too large. The forum software is limited to 800 x 800 pixels, so a lot of digital photos have to be reduced in size before they'll come through. So, thanks for another blast from the past!

So, does this rare bird bring back any memories for those in my homeland? It lives with me in Silicon Valley these days, one of 10 ever made. The original 2 owners had # 1 & 2, and as the first musician to play there, I had # 3 originally.

Ha! I sure have seen those, or at least that logo. I'm sure you know the B'town Pub is long gone, but fondly remembered.

Les briefly resurrected Nosh Box on Whittington, years after the original. It didn't last long in the new location.
