Only one job here so far this year- economy?

by Nimbus Couzin » Fri Jan 15, 2010 4:06 pm

Not looking so hot for jobs so far in 2010 here. I thought the economy was getting better?

I guess one is better than none.....Good job Tony!

Edit: I guess the real question is what can we do? Some of us can help create jobs. Others can innovate. But to help our local economy, we really should support local. It helps us a lot more than sending our dollars out of state. Really, a mini-stimulus.

In my 20+ years experience, traditionally, January is the slowest month in the Bizz. No one really starts hiring again until mid-April to gear up for Derby. At the club, I used to start hiring for the busy summer sesaon about the end of March to have the "cream of the crop" so to speak. Also, most but not all, places are much busier in the summer than the winter.

I've seen plenty on craigslist...are we not communicating effectively with local restaurants that this forum exists? And I don't know why the old listings aren't deleted. Obviously a server job from November has been filled.

I've been wondering this myself. I have been thinking about returning to the industry on a temp/PT basis because I miss serving, but it's been so long since I've done it and figure the FT/pros should have first dibs, and casual chain dining doesn't sound appealing to me.
