Off to Berlin in six hours - any recommendations?

by Nimbus Couzin » Wed Apr 15, 2009 3:59 am

Hey ya'll... I'm up late, getting ready to pack (been doing biz stuff). Leaving for Berlin in a few hours. It'll be a short trip (just under a week).

Anyone have any ideas, food-wise, or anything else? I haven't been there in about fifteen years! (I am veggie, but my dad isn't - I'm visiting him). Also, we'll have our baby with us...bringing my laptop too....

Thanks!!!

Ah. . .sheesh. I was in Berlin for a long weekend maybe 7 years ago, and had some good meals, but for the life of me I can't think of anything.

We ate at a great Thai place somewhere close to the old east/west dividing line, just on the east part I think (I remember it being surrounded by the old Communist sytle buildings).

I'm really not much help, I suppose, but if you stumble across a nice looking Thai place in that area, maybe that's the one. . .

Oh, and if you're into jazz, there are some great jazz clubs in Berlin. We spent a nice evening at the A-Train (or A-Trane in deutch-speak) - http://www.a-trane.de/

B-Flat and Quasimodo's are supposed to be great too.

I had some great sushi (conveyor belt small dish style) when I was there back in '03 at a place right near the Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz apparently called SushiExpress. I found a brief review of it here.

I know you're a veg but I'm remembering them having several veggie rolls.
Other than that maybe hit up the Berliner Bürgerbräu, the last indie brew pub in the city.
