Austin - Trip report

by JustinHammond » Mon Nov 11, 2019 5:32 pm

Austin is probably the most overrated city I have ever been to, but there are some good eats if you are willing to get away from downtown.

Micklethwait Craft Meats - great sausage, ok brisket, horrible potato salad, and slaw

Clark's Oyster Bar - fantastic, but expensive lunch. Lobster roll, shrimp toast, grilled octopus.

Fixe Southern House - great dinner/happy hour. Smoked trout dip, crab fingers, crab hushpuppies.

Arlo Grey - great dinner/happy hour. Ricotta Tartine, Snapper Fritters, Fried Chicken Legs

Franklin Barbecue - they were out of everything but chopped brisket. Chopped brisket was really good, sides were all mediocre. Not worth the hour wait.

LENOIR - great outdoor beer/wine garden

Matt's El Rancho - pretty solid Tex/Mex lunch

Loro - great lunch - Asian/Texas bbq fusion

Nickel City - really cool dive bar

Texas Chili Parlor - great dive - excellent chili

Thanks for the travel report, Justin. I went to Austin in the early '90s and ate at a lot of really good Mexican places, but I'm way overdue for an update.
