Going through looking for anything about Indianapolis that might be new and worthy of checking out this weekend. The last thread is two years old. We are going up this weekend for my early Christmas present "Indiana Sports Orgy" . Up on Saturday we'll load up on the bill of fare at Shaperio's Deli before we head off to the TWO basketball games at Conseco Fieldhouse featuring in game one one, Purdue vs. Butler and in game two, my beloved IU Hoosiers vs. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame! . Looking for something interesting on Saturday night for dinner.

Sunday features a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium to witness the debacle that is this season's Peyton Manning-less Colts vs. The trying to keep their playoff hopes alive Tenneessee Titans. Any can't miss breakfast or brunch before the game?
I was thinking about heading over to the German place in Jasper on the way home but I'm unsure if they are open on Sunday. Or even if I we want to go that far out of the way for it.
Any recs ( Other than St. Elmo's ) are appreciated.

The Schnitzelbank is closed on Sundays, and while quite good, not exactly worthy of that much of a detour anyway.

Thanks Justin. I'm leaning toward going to Fogo de Chao on Saturday because I've never been to one of those churrascaria places and its kind of on my bucket list to go at least once. Bring me meat, meat and more meat on a stick! I'm impressed that they actually have several locations IN Brazil, so they must be somewhat authentic right?

It has been a couple of years since I lived in Indy, but Cafe Patachou was one of my favorite breakfast places. They have a couple of locations now, but I always went to the original on North Pennsylvania Street near 49th. Not exactly downtown, but on a Sunday morning it should only be an easy 10 minute drive or so. The omelets are very, very good and the ingredients are fresh and local as I recall..

Hey Dan, I spend A LOT of time in Indy, but unfortunately, I'm not allowed to just offer up "willy nilly" my sister's kitchen for some of the best food you'll find there.

I second Patachou, and loudly. I also love Three sisters, but it's in Broadripple. Three sisters is comparable to Meridian Cafe in atmosphere, so it might not suit your dining mood, but the food is incredible. As cheesy as it seems to talk a place up based on the merit of their Food Network exposure, it was discovered on DDD, and I wasn't surprised at all when I found out.

What I DO think you would love: Sun King Brewery. It's located somewhere downtown (an area I'm totally unfamiliar with so far). My Brother-in-law works there, so I've gotten to drink a shit-ton of their brew - all delicious. But don't go too thirsty or hungry. Why would I say so? Because they don't serve food or pints. They do, however, hand you tickets for four beer samples. You walk in, get the tickets, walk to the growler trough area, and get your 4 free 4 ounce tastes. They have a huge selection of growlers and coolers full of 16 ounce cans if you decide to buy. It's a huge warehouse kind of place, too, with lots of retail items and milling patrons with tall boy tables, so if you don't buy their beer after drinking their free samples, it's not uncomfortable to say thank you and find your exit. At least not in my experience. Their beers won several blue ribbons at GABF this past year, and they're being paraded already as Indiana's favorite brewery in some circles. They've only been around for 2 yrs or less (we 1st discovered them at Indy's winter fest 2010). Holler at me if you go to let me know whether or not I'm right on or just Over-Zealous.

Bummer Dude. I just looked up Sun King's website and the hours they are open don't jive with our basketball schedule. I'm certain I'll be able to order one of their offerings at one of the local places in Indy though. Thanks for the idea and we'll have to remember them next time we go to Indy.

Boo, I was afraid of that. Glad you checked. When I went to the White River Stadium for a concert recently, they had Sun King's Osiris, and I've seen their beers served at almost every restaurant we've been to, lately, so you'll probably see it somewhere. Have fun, dude!
