It has been a long time since I've been to Rome, but if these spots are still there, they are definitely worth stopping at:
Ristorante Settimio
Via delle Colonnelle 14
near the Trevi fountain if I remember right. The
phone number is 06 678 96 51. A wonderful family run place
where my wife wept over the truffle pasta.
Dar Poeta
Vicolo del Bologna 45/46
this is an awesome pizzeria in Trastevere (a kind of cool but
a little out of the way neighborhood south of the
river - it would be a good neighborhood to try and
find a room in for the night if you were to spend one
night in Rome, we stayed very near there.) It is in a
weird
corner and hard to find, but totally worth it. The
best pizza in the world. I think they don't open
until after 7 at night, but it gets really crowded,
really fast. Service is a litytle on the brusque
side.
Also, if you are site seeing near the Coliseum and
want to stop for an afternoon glass of wine and some
yummy cheese, go to:
Enoteca Cavour 313
Via Cavour 313
right down the street from the Coliseum, but not
really a tourist spot. Awesome wine list and really
good cheeses (most of which are hard to get here in
the ststes) and a nice quiet, laidback atmosphere.
