Just back from a quick beach trip and was quite stunned to find a really wonderful restaurant in Seaside (stayed at Grayton Beach, and not much there other than the infamous Red Bar). The Great Southern Cafe was terrific, even though it is located in the busiest shopping area of the community. The chef calls the style "modern Southern," which seems pretty descriptive of the menu. He also makes a mean ten-pepper sauce for oysters. www.thegreatsoutherncafe.com

By the way - the week after Labor Day is a great time to visit the panhandle! Most quiet ....

Love Seaside. Love 30A. We sometimes forget to go to the beach because we're busy walking, riding our bikes, sightseeing, dining out, window shopping.
The owners of the Seacrest Sundries, just west of Rosemary Beach, moved down there from Louisville a couple of years ago. Lucky them!
