Rick Bayless's great companion Mexican regional restaurants, Frontera Grill and Topolobampo.

Sad to say that Marshall Field's has been gobbled up by Macy's. :(

We had a chance to go Purple Pig on a mid-Sunday afternoon in August and really enjoyed it. We were warned to not go during "normal" times (long wait times and no reservations accepted).

A must visit every trip for us is the upper floor of Le Colonial on Rush St. Whether it is just for drinks or a full dinner, it just reminds us of what Saigon might have been like in the '20's.

These are the places we made it to.

The Publican
Horrible service, we were made to stand in an empty restaurant because we didn't have a reservation at 5:00. Had some good raw oysters and a couple of beers.

Girl & The Goat
Great food, beer, cocktails, and service. Walking distance to Next, Aviary, and Publican.

Aviary
Unique and expensive experience. I would recommend going for one drink, skipping the food, and savor the show.

Goose Island Beer Company
Great beer, good food, ok atmosphere.

Xoco
Very good and cheap breakfast in a Rick Bayless restaurant. Don't miss the Mexican hot chocolate.

Purple Pig
Cool place, good service, and good food. We stopped in for a few apps and were impressed.

Mercat a la Planxa
Jose Garces' place in downtown did not disappoint; think Mojito kicked up one notch.
