I am meeting some friends from Tennessee for lunch in a couple of weeks. We have split the driving and are meeting up in Bowling Green. Any suggestions for restaurants and activities? Actually in my world restaurants are activities but they were thinking of caves, or a hike or a walk.

Thanks,
Barbara

Personal testimony, none, but the presence of Western Kentucky University offers some hope.

These quick google hits look promising. They say they're open for lunch.

This may give you some hope, but I hope we can lure some participants with actual recent experience into the discussion.

Brick Yard also has a location in Franklin (Kentucky), and it's pretty good. Assuming the BG location is of the same caliber, I'd give it a shot.

Our daughter is a Sophomore at WKU this year and we've been down there several times over the last year.

Mariah's is a good solid lunch. Nothing special, but reliable. We've been there 2 or 3 times, most notably after moving her into her dorm both years, and it's been a nice atmosphere to sit down and visit before we had to hit the road.

Don't think 440 Main is open for lunch according to the website, but if you're down there and it's open it was a better meal when we were down there for dinner her Freshman year.

The National Corvette Museum. http://corvettemuseum.com/

I may be wrong but I believe every Corvette made since 1981 was made in Bowling Green.

IMO stay away from Mammoth Cave...it's pretty county if you want to picnic, etc but it's absolutely the lamest cave I've ever been in. It was like touring the underside of an LA freeway overpass after an earthquake...Once you've seen one slab of limestone, you've seen 'em all.

Doug, Thank you very much for the Mariah's recommendation. I am always looking for a little out of the way place with just plain old good food. I do like the locals so much better probably for the atmosphere.

Steve, Thanks for the heads up about Mammoth Caves. We will defiantly be looking at something with fewer steps as my friend has knee issues and will likely end up in Scottsville for the wineries. In truth we may not make it anywhere. It has been over a year since we met up and I think the talking and catching up may get in the way of everything...including shopping...god forbid.
