Kroeger sale

by carla griffin » Thu Mar 13, 2008 9:08 pm

All the great artisan salts that Kroger was offering are on sale. Formerly 10.99-12.99 a jar I picked up 2/$4.00. Just FYI.

You spent money AT A CHAIN????? What ever have you done? I really thought more of you than that, Carla. You must go before the local foodie gods and beg forgiveness. How dare a forumite even think about chains. I even bet there is very little "green" in buying that salt. Prolly came from 2 lights years away from Earth.

Oh, it's spelled Kroger. I beat the local spell checkers to that one. Ha, ha ha.

BTW, check ur PM's.

i was wondering the same.

The only "artisan salts" i've seen at Kroger were kosher and sea.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

It was the Kroger on 146 (LaGrange Rd) and Synder Espwy'
I got a Himalayan Pink mineral salt (reg 11.99) and a Murray River Australian flake salt (reg 12.99)
The independent food gods are welcome to try and kick my butt for doing so but they'll have to reimburse me the $20.98 I saved first than they can have at me!
Hey I had just dropped more than $50 bucks at Fresh Market the same evening on other stuff. I spread what little money I have to the local people and if Fresh Market or a local grocery had the same product at that ridiculous price I would have bought it there. Once you ( as in people other than me, not necessarily you in paticular) have to raise and put a kid through college on a single income you learn how to shop around a bit.

Yeah I thought it was a pretty good deal. Any suggestion how best to use them?

I went there and they seemed to be all out. I got some cheap stuff from Cyprus. $3.65 a jar. I wonder if it'll be any good. One was straight up sea salt and the other was smoked sea salt, which I've seen used in restaurants in the Ville. We shall see. It sure looks purty in the plastique containers.

My question to Carla ...How will you use the stuff?

Will you hoard it like a trophy......(like so many so called "foodies")

or actually use it in your day to day cooking?

To tell you the truth Dan I don't know. I don't want to horde it but I'm not sure how best to use it to showcase it's character either. The Himalayan Pink is a super fine grind and I wondered how it would be on something simple, like popcorn. I need to do a little research on them both I guess but I'd be willing to take any suggestions.

Morning Carla -
I use my artisan salts strictly as finishing salts I have a Sicilian pink salt that I sprinkle on bruschetta that has been rubbed with garlic and drizzled with great olive oil - perfection.

Hey,
I've got some rare Ohio river salt I'll sell for $24.95 a bottle, I hand scraped it out of a pile on the street at 6th and Ashland, hurry before it melts away in the spring rains, I'll even meet the buyer at Kroedger if I need to, the password is "Foodie".

GG.

This is the brand I bought at Kroger.

http://www.opal-export.com/Index.asp?CategoryID=198

The website is rife with misspellings. The salts sure look good though. I can hardly wait to use them. BTW, there are recipes for use of the sea salt flakes on the site.
