Iron Chef parties

Last weekend I had the pleasure to participate/compete in a friend's annual Iron Chef birthday party. This is a very clever way to host a party, I think, as all of your guests do the cooking for you! As no stadium kitchen was available, all dishes were pre-cooked, so it was as much pot luck as anything, but each invited chef still explained all the dishes, how they were prepared, what the ingredients were, etc. 'Twas much fun, and I was impressed by the inventiveness of the dishes. Our "secret" ingredient this year was bacon, and the food was all so good that we conveniently forgot to vote on a winner.

Does anyone else do this? Or am I just so behind the times that this actually seems like a new idea? (I had to give up cable when I opened up an office in my home, just because it was too distracting and I'd find myself watching Food Network for hours on what was supposed to be a 30 minute lunch break).

Any success or horror stories? Just curious.

A bunch of us sorta did it at BBC on Clay Street Live the night Todd Richards was on Iron Chef. Robin gave us several secret ingredients and we brought dishes to share. It was a blast. :D

Gina and I second that idea Dave. The Bourbon Barrel Stout cake was KILLA! Ditto for all the other dishes. Let's cue one up! When, where and how?

Sunday's work well for this venue as the TapRoom is closed. Saturday's are an option as well.
