Ever had them? I've never seen them other than canned in syrup. Paul's had these fresh ones the other day, so I thought I'd give them a try. Leathery peel, kind of like an avocado. Translucent, white fruit comes out whole and a seed that looks like a nicoise olive. The flesh is kind of the consistency of a grape with a very mild flavor that reminded me of pear. Interesting fruit but not one I would buy again - just an experiment because I see lychee as a flavor descriptor in some wine notes and was curious.

Fascinating! I wish I had seen that at Paul's, Jay, for the same reason: Just to give them a try.

Did they remind you of Gewürztraminer? :)
