Potato Ricer

by Kim H » Sat Jan 07, 2017 11:11 pm

I hope someone has suggestions. I LOVE "mashed" potatoes that have been riced. My MIL and SIL make them this way at Tgiving, and I adore the texture. So I tried it myself, and what a mess, and sooooo much effort! How my 95-year-old MIL manages that is beyond me. I gave up and mashed them by hand. Is there an automatic/electric ricer? A Kitchen Aid attachment? Would a food mill approximate? Suggestions?

Thanks, Gary. That has holes on the sides, which mine does not, so it would probably be somewhat easier to use. But I was really hoping for something more automated.

Kim, maybe I just like my potatoes smashier than you do, but I love the texture I get with one of these:

Another possibility: Do you have a food mill? If not, it might be worth looking at one in lieu of a ricer just because it's a multi-tasker. Makes great tomato sauce out of summer's excess, for instance.

Thanks, Robin! That's actually what I typically use, and what I defaulted to using after much frustration with the ricer.

I wondered if a food mill might approximate, which I mentioned in my initial post. I might try that next time. Thanks again!
