Eggs

by Sherrie G » Fri Jan 11, 2008 4:08 pm

This is probably an easy question to answer for all you gourmet (and not-so-gourmet) chefs... How long can you keep boiled eggs if they are still in their shells?

It seems that I read somewhere, it's a handy time saver to hard boil a batch of eggs all at once, then refrigerate them for a quick snack later.

What's the correct method of storing them and what is their (refrigerator) shelf life?

A side question - is there a spell checker (besides my handy dictionary) for these posts?

I have always been told to use hard boiled eggs within 7 days of cooking. Don't know if that is official or not.....

Good luck!

I agree - one week. Remember that an "old" (when put into cook) will peel easier.

Type your post into Word or whatever word processing software you use, then run spell check on it from there and copy into your post here. Hope this helps.

For my own personal use, I've been known to go two weeks (particularly around Easter). Don't know what the official "food safety" answer is, but I've never had any problem. Eat any that crack during cooking first.

I store mine loose in an open tupperware container for easy access.

The Joy of Cooking says 2 - 3 weeks unpeeled in the fridge, one week peeled in an air-tight container.[/i]
