Best olive oil?

by TP Lowe » Tue Dec 18, 2007 10:16 pm

For several years I have been buying EVOO (oops ... Rachel reference) from a farmer in Umbria. This year, due to the dollar weakness and transportation costs, it just doesn't make sense to do so any more. Any ideas for a cold-pressed oil that I can by locally by the case?

Oliva Bella

TP,

We used to carry three artisanal oils from three different regions of Italy that are direct imported by two women in Lexington. The oils are outstanding: Robin ran a review/highlight about them back when we first got them in. A number of our best local restaurants use them as finishing oils; I know both Alice Waters and Lynne Rosseto Kasper have used them for major dinners.

The oils are "oliva bella" and the company is Abbondanza. Unfortunately, I don't believe any retailers in Louisville carry them now that we are closed, but you can order them on-line and/or drive to Lex to pickup a case- Abbondanza now has a small retail store in the front of their warehouse.

Thanks for the kind reply, Deb. I'll certainly pursue your lead!
