Looking for some help for my mother-in-law who wants to make cheese. Is there a local source for tartaric acid?

Also known as cream of tartar? In the baking needs aisle at your local grocer!

If she needs a lot, it might be available in bulk at a wine-making shop. Is that little shop in Westport Plaza still around? Odd that i work across the street from there on weekends but never noticed.

Thanks Robin. She was under the impression that cream of tartar was somehow different. I know nothing of cheese making, so I thought I would ask. Now, cheese eating? That I know.

BAM! That's it. She's making marscapone. Now, where to find this elusive ingredient?

While cleaning out my basket full of catalogs, I came across LEHMAN's. The cover says "Simple products for a simpler life". It is directed towatd the Amish. They have a great section on cheese making, including books on making cheese.
