Tomato plants

by Lois Mauk » Fri Apr 18, 2014 7:35 pm

Really impressed by my first visit to GRANT LINE GARDEN CENTER & NURSERY in New Albany. Much bigger than it looks from the street. Extremely happy with the pricing on vegetable plants. NINETY-NINE CENTS ($0.99) for small veggies -- tomatoes, peppers, etc. I got three tomatoes and two bell peppers for less than $5! Awesome selection of tomato varieties too; several that you're not going to find at your local hardware store's garden center. Yeah, they're small plants but it's still early in the season. Going to harden mine off for a week or so and wait for the ground to warm up. Planting my herbs tomorrow. Peas survived the freeze last week and potatoes are still threatening to come up any minute now.

Lois do you know whether or not their bedding/ hanging basket plants are the sort that HAVE NOT been treated with systemic pesticides which kills bees? I know that all the big box hardware/gardening stores over here sell nothing but that and I want something bee safe.

No clue, Carla, but I'm sure they'll be happy to answer your question. Just give them a call. Seemed like real nice folks. Looks like they do a lot of their own growing on the spot. Like I said, the place is a LOT bigger than it looks from the street.
