Fresh Yeast

by Toby Lomax » Mon Aug 19, 2013 6:23 pm

Does anyone know where I can get fresh yeast for home baking here in Louisville? It does not have to be the small packets, as I go through it quickly enough that I an use the commercial packs.

I used to be able to buy the small packets locally at Kroger and Meijer, but I have not seen them in years. While I normally use instant yeast when baking, I prefer fresh, and while I know of a mail order source, the thought of paying almost $10 plus two-day shipping from California seems a bit ridiculous.

Thanks!

Toby,
Have you tried the heathy food stores? I would think Rainbow Blossom or Earthfare would have it. Both are really friendly to a phone call to ask.

Toby, give GFS a call. There's a good chance they carry fresh yeast there.
It's listed in their "product guide".
