Remmber an article on how Louisviile became a hub for the distribution of live lobster - was I dreaming?

Clearwater Seafood (out on Produce Rd.) may be the firm that you are thinking of.

They also sell to the public at wholesale prices..... You can get great prices on culls(lobsters that are missing a claw)

Chef's tip, ask for females because the tails are bigger!!!!

Somebody has to pick up on this straight line, but it ain't gonna be me ...

However, Greg Gapsis did touch on Clearwater in a good story he wrote in Food & Dining about a year ago. I'll ask him if he's seen this thread.

Okay, guys...

Just be warned when buying from them: their lobsters are very good but can be very LARGE. I learned the hard way a number of years back. Had a recipe for Lobster chowder and had a choice between two 1 1/2 lb lobsters and one 3 lb. I chose one monster 3 pounder (hoping for more meat), and then got home and realized I didn't have a pot big enough to steam it! Yikes! (A massacre ensued...).

BYW- They are excellent fresh lobsters,

Deb

FYI, Deb, a turkey deep fryer is an excellent way to cook lobsters (in water, of course, not oil).

I've been buying lobsters from this place for several years. Great product at a great price. We are lucky to have them in town.

I read a New Yorker article about it

Maybe one and a half or two years ago. There was a big article about how many companies are keeping their stock and doing their repair work (computers and stuff) right at the UPS center in Louisville. There was a Maine lobster company who has tanks of live ones at UPS, replinished daily, for faster distribution around the country.
