this year's sweet potatoes

by C. Devlin » Thu Nov 22, 2007 3:31 pm

Am I the only one who's noticed that the available sweet potatoes over the past months have been peculiar? They've been tough and dry and not very appealing, taking longer to bake than normal. I've tried batch after batch and had the same results. I love a fabulously caramelized, long-bake sweet potato, but haven't been happy with them for months and months now.

I stocked up at the farmers market while it was still open, and I haven't noticed anything different. If anything, mine have been more flavorful and sweet, but I assume that's cause they are locally grown.

Mine are from Graf's Produce: they also sell direct to our Whole Foods so you might want to check there...

I have found the same thing- dry and not sweet at all. As a result I've tried the Garnet Sweet Potatoes at Whole Foods which are delicious- I may not go back to the regular ones. They are worth a try.

I imagine the drought may have had something to do with the issues you're reporting.
